Day Block Event Center Where Jill Weds John

Day Block Event Center is one of my favorite summer venues. And I don’t really know why. It could be because of the awesome exposed brick and the general ambience that extra tall windows on a second floor downtown give off, but likely it’s couples that hire me that get married there.

They are fantastic couples. They are truly and deeply in love and it shows. It shows in the type of wedding they have, a perfect combination of DIY and expert vendors. It shows in the way their wedding guests act about and around them, cooing and oohing over how perfect the two are for each other.

And they also get the process. They tend to be organized and on top of their shit and then they hire the BEST photographers to capture it all.

6 THINGS WE CAN LEARN

  1. It is possible to fold hundreds of origami paper cranes for your wedding without having to do it the night before.

  2. If you purchase a letter press, use it for every piece of paper possible.

  3. If you have a friend who’s got a great voice, have them sing during the ceremony. Yes, I will cry, but it will be happy tears and so will everyone else.

  4. Having a friend officiate is usually a grand slam idea, especially when this person is a great orator and keeps their cool under pressure. Maybe just remind them not to hold the mic in front of themselves for the vows - we all just want to hear you and your fiancé profess your undying love for one another.

  5. Having two bars is a great idea, having one be cocktails and the other beer and wine is an even better idea.

  6. Take pictures outside, as many as you can.
