Over the summer my aunt mentioned that I should write a blog post geared towards weddings for older couples. Couples who are over 40, mature adults, who’ve lived a little life and have a different perspective.

And I loved the idea.

But the more I thought about it, and then after having worked with Marie and John to plan their wedding in 4 months, the more I realized that NO! You’re wedding is not going to be different because you are an older couple.

It will be different because you like different colors, you have a different social circle, maybe you have kids or maybe your friends do. But the thing is, just because you are older doesn’t mean your wedding isn’t going to be less detailed, cheaper, less fun, or any other idea we might have about weddings for the 30+ crowd.

Marie and John were a typical Sixpence client. They relied on my advice, which I happily gave, they were confident about some decisions and procrastinated a few others. They had loving and supportive friends and family members, they included personal touches that made their wedding day shine.

Judge for yourself, but in my opinion, every wedding is unique, no matter your age.

6 THINGS WE CAN LEARN

  1. When you have a floral vision that includes BOLD colors, go for it. Abandon all hesitation and dive right in.

  2. Leaving plenty of time for family photos is almost as important as ensuring your hot weather wedding day has a shady spot for photos.

  3. Cohesion makes a wedding prettier, every. single. time.

  4. Locating your receiving line plenty far away from your ceremony site ensures that the line keeps moving and that your guests can flee that sweating sun sooner.

  5. Don’t oversaturate your wedding with color, white and greenery offer a great visual balance.

  6. If your spouse-to-be is handy, but them to work!
