I LOVE backyard weddings. I love the idea behind them, the ease of them and the people who come to them. Of course they aren’t less work or less stressful or (in most cases) cheap. They are a great way to celebrate your love, to keep the day casual and a ton of fun.

Alex and Lisi did all the things right. They hired me well in advance, so that they paced themselves during the year. They listened to my musts; you must rent a portable restroom, you must rent a tent; you can reuse ceremony chairs for the reception, you don’t need to worry about a fuss of decor.

Their wedding day perfectly fit their relationship. It was well-thought out but not fussy and it was so much fun that literally nobody wanted to leave. Seriously. I had to push them off the lawn lol and unplug the lights more than once.

True to their style there were signature drinks, Lisi got dressed, I swear, 45 minutes before the ceremony, they didn’t worry about matchy matchy or meaningless traditions. They danced, they laughed and they had the time of their lives.

6 THINGS WE CAN LEARN

  1. Watching the forecast before your wedding IS helpful. You can last minute rent outdoor heaters or purchase a few Ikea blankets to ensure guests stay comfortable. HOWEVER this does not mean obsess/worry/become insomniac over the pending weather shifts before your I do day.

  2. Getting married at home yields a very relaxed day.

  3. If you get wild and crazy at your rehearsal dinner the night before, you might still feel the effects the next day.

  4. Having your dog at your wedding is adorable, just be sure to give them some down time so they don’t get too overwhelmed.

  5. Your house should probably be locked if you don’t want guests to go inside.

  6. Dollar store tablecloths are shitty, don’t waste your dollar.
